REC has been producing solar-grade polysilicon and silane gas at its Moses Lake, Washington, facility since 2002. In 2005 REC opened its second USA silicon production plant in Butte, Montana. Combined employment at the two plants is projected to reach 750 in 2009. REC’s 2008/2009 investment in the expansion of its existing USA plants amounts to US$1.3 billion.
Bécancour, Quebec, has been selected as a potential site for future silicon production in North America.
Commencing with its investment in Mainstream Energy in 2008, REC began distributing its solar modules in the USA. Mainstream Energy, through its operating companies REC Solar and AEE Solar, is one of the largest suppliers of solar electric products, systems, and services in North America.
