Silicon

REC is a global leader in the production of polysilicon for the photovoltaics industry, ensuring a secure supply of high-quality silicon. Ongoing developments at REC’s two USA facilities continuously improve silicon production methods and contribute to increasing module efficiency. The replacement of Siemens-style silicon production with fluidized bed reactor technology is expected to substantially reduce energy consumption, increase yield and improve silicon purity.

Wafers

REC is one of the world’s largest producers of multicrystalline wafers and a significant producer of monocrystalline wafers. Technological innovations help maintain wafer quality while simultaneously reducing silicon usage and minimizing wafer breakage in cell and module processing:

• Energy-efficient ingot crystallization to improve the crystal structure
• Thinner wires to produce thinner wafers and reduce kerf loss
• Recycling kerf loss to minimize silicon waste
• Fully automated wafering process to standardize quality

Cells, Modules and Systems
